Hi everyone!

Many new people have found this site in the past few weeks, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to the Humble Foodie. It was probably time for a reintroduction anyway, as this blog has changed a lot since we started it! Kerry and I (Alicia) started the Humble Foodie in October 2011 as a place to express our love of cooking and share recipes with friends, many of whom were looking for fun and easy recipes to make for one or two people. Our friend Devin encouraged us to start a blog to hopefully inspire other food lovers who are learning to cook at home and on a budget. Since then, this blog has grown so much. The support of our friends and readers continues to inspire us to experiment, create new recipes, and cook many meals together.

October 2011 was about the same time that I started learning about the Paleo diet. I read everything I could get my hands on and drooled over the tons of Paleo food porn on the internet. Recently, Humble Foodie has taken a turn towards providing recipes that are grain-, dairy-, legume-, refined sugar-free to fit with this lifestyle. My goal is to provide colorful, nutritious meal ideas within a mostly Paleo framework while respecting different points of view on health and diet. That doesn’t mean that desserts are a lost cause–just wait til I finish this Whole30!

Don’t worry: Kerry and I are still great friends with a shared love of food and entertaining. We support each other through fallen cakes, bland soups, and I-need-chocolate days. But recently I have had more time to dedicate to this space, so you’ve heard a lot from my perspective. I love teaching myself about web design, social media, and building online communities, and this blog is one way to grow these interests.

As the Humble Foodie continues to grow, I can’t wait to share more DIY projects for crafters on a budget (I’m still an AmeriCorps volunteer, so I hear you!), reflections on navigating the messy time after college that we often refer to as “real life”, and easy Paleo recipes. While we both love to eat well, life as AmeriCorps volunteers doesn’t afford us the budget to try every new restaurant and type of cuisine. With many post-graduate expenses and limited financial resources, what’s a foodie to do? The answer is here, at The Humble Foodie. Instead of spending our hard-earned cash paying other people to cook for us, we’re spending as frugally as possible making delicious meals at home.

      Thanks Kenley! I really appreciate your support. Can’t wait to soak up more of your advice on entertaining- I am hosting a brunch this weekend and will have to work on a free/frugal tablescape so I’ll be coming to you for inspiration.
