Chocolate Chex Clusters

As you can tell by this recipe and my Homemade Chex Mix recipe, chex mix is a great base for a snack.  You know those goodies that show up at each of your holiday celebrations? The ones that you say to yourself, “Oh, I’ll just sneak 1 in. Okay maybe 2. Really, I’m going to stop after 3!”

These fall under that category for my family! You even may get away with telling yourself that this is a healthy snack, you know, the cereal?! These are a family favorite and are a popular “cookie” we exchange at Christmas time, as well as the perfect dessert/snack to munch on at a tailgate. The chocolate-nut and chocolate-pretzel combo is especially delicious!

RecipeServes about 30 clusters
Prep time: 20 minutes

2 pounds baking chocolate (or white)
2 cups cheerios
4 cups Crispix
2 cups broken pretzels
1 cup dry roasted peanuts

Melt chocolate on the stove over low heat, stirring constantly.  In a large bowl, measure out dry ingredients.

When chocolate is melted, pour in large bowl. Mix all ingredients together.  Scoop out spoonfuls and let set on wax paper. Clusters should dry within 30 minutes.

About Humble Foodie

While we both love to eat well, life as AmeriCorps volunteers doesn’t afford us the budget to try every new restaurant and type of cuisine. With many post-graduate expenses and limited financial resources, what’s a foodie to do? The answer is here, at The Humble Foodie. Instead of spending our hard-earned cash paying other people to cook for us, we’re spending as frugally as possible making delicious meals at home.
