Giving Thanks

Both of us are very thankful for our KitchenAid mixers.

As Thanksgiving approaches and we start to dream of all the wonderful dishes we will make, we are also looking forward to spending the holiday with loved ones. At this time of year, we like to think about the many things for which we are thankful. We decided to share these on The Humble Foodie because this blog is our way to combine our different interests and hobbies and share them with people we care about.

We are both so grateful to have families that support us in our endeavors. They brought us into this world and raised us with strong values…. and strong whisking arms. We realize how fortunate we are every time we are surrounded by the positive, loving presence of our families (including our adorable puppies.)

A Fulfilling Job
Every morning, we wake up excited to go in to work and see our students. Our day is instantly brightened by their cheer, charm, and high school dramas. We are proud to play a small role in the lives of these talented and motivated young people.

The Opportunity to Travel
By traveling within the States and abroad, we have each been able to experience different cultures and learn more about our own. We’ve sampled cuisines from around the world and had conversations in multiple languages. We realize that this type of experience is a privilege, and we appreciate how travel has enriched our lives.

Health and Happiness

Even though we live on a stipend, we have enough to live comfortably, eat well, and take care of ourselves. Having access to fresh, good quality food is vital to our well-being (as well as to our happiness in the kitchen!) We are incredibly thankful that we can take it as a given that we will have enough food and be able to eat well on a daily basis.

We are just as grateful for our friends as we are for our families. Our friends pick us up when we’re down, encourage us to pursue our passions, and are always willing to join us at the table when we test new recipes.

What are you thankful for this holiday season? We’d love to hear.

Until we mix again,

Kerry & Alicia

About Humble Foodie

While we both love to eat well, life as AmeriCorps volunteers doesn’t afford us the budget to try every new restaurant and type of cuisine. With many post-graduate expenses and limited financial resources, what’s a foodie to do? The answer is here, at The Humble Foodie. Instead of spending our hard-earned cash paying other people to cook for us, we’re spending as frugally as possible making delicious meals at home.
